- Welcome
- Here you'll see that art has been woven through my life since childhood, starting with the paintings and drawings my relatives sent from prison. Those early pieces showed me the emotional power of creativity, though I didn’t fully understand it at the time. In grade school my inspiration for art truly took off. After a tough day, my art teacher sat down, took my art pad, and started drawing a portrait of me while talking to me about what was going on. Witnessing the process of creation firsthand, I was hooked. That moment sparked something in me that I carried forward.
High school brought its own challenges, and though I never consciously decided to end up in prison, that’s where I found myself. Ironically, in my mind, I kept thinking about those paintings my relatives had sent years ago. I thought art classes in prison must be top-tier, and maybe I needed to be there to become a great artist!
- Of course, that was just my twisted thinking, fueled by drugs and alcohol.
When I got to prison, I didn’t find any art classes. But I did have plenty of time to practice—and I learned that’s what really matters. All you need to improve as an artist is time and dedication. I taught myself everything I know about art while behind bars.
After making the personal decision to get clean, I’ve continued my self-education in the free world, now exploring digital art. Though my time is limited as a truck driver, I make time for art whenever I can. It’s not just a hobby—it’s my form of meditation and self-reflection.
